Strawberry Shortcake: Appetizer or Dessert?

We've posted several other strawberry shortcake variations in the past, but how can we resist another? It's our favorite dessert! We made a simple twist to this recipe and turned it into a Valentine's treat for the whole family. We love using Original Bisquick from Betty Crocker, which makes Strawberry Shortcake recipes easy and delicious!

Instead of making the traditional larger biscuits, we used a small heart shaped cookie cutter to make these tiny heart biscuits. We paired them with sliced strawberries and homemade whipped cream to make the perfect Valentine's day treat.

But the question is, with this adorable presentation of bite-sized portions, will you serve it as an appetizer or dessert? Or how about both? We think dessert appetizers are perfect for any party. Start your next dinner party off right with these sweet morsels!

Recipe:

Biscuits
2 1/4 cups Original Bisquick mix
2/3 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
Heat oven to 450 degrees. Stir ingredients until soft dough form. Roll out dough and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Place cut outs on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes or until tops of the biscuits turn golden brown.

Strawberries
1 cup of strawberries
2 Tablespoons sugar
Remove stems and slice strawberries. Mix with sugar. Keep refrigerated if not using right away.

Whipped Cream
1 cup heavy cream
1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Before making, chill the metal bowl of a stand mixer and the paddle attachment in the freezer for 10 minutes. Add all ingredients to the bowl and mix on high until medium peaks form. Serve immediately.
*If you are not using right away, mix until soft peaks form and refrigerate for up to 2 hours. When you are ready to serve, mix until medium peaks form.

Enjoy!
